“I spend about 90 percent of my day answering questions,” says Maria Onesto Moran, founder and president of Green Home Experts in Oak Park. And that wasn’t about to stop, because I was there to inquire about getting into the business of selling green products for the home, such as eco-friendly all-purpose cleaners and exquisite recycled-glass countertops. Maria was glad to be of assistance, with her genuine and benevolent nature toward green living sitting comfortably on her sleeve.

Chicago's LivingRoom Realty takes sustainable living personally

Nestled in a modest and minimal Chicago storefront with two desks, a vintage diner booth, four speakers mounted to the wall and a beautiful mural against a pop-blue backdrop, you'll find the sustainably minded LivingRoom Realty. The past year has not been kind to the real estate market, but according to co-owners Annie Coleman and Abraham McClurg, they have been busy since they opened their doors about a year ago—possibly the worst time to jump into real estate. But they found the perfect niche that embraced their values and their culture, and it's the reason they've been able to weather this storm.

TOUGH TO RECYCLE: CDs AND DVDs AND DV-Rs, OH MY!
This is part one of an ongoing series of hard-to-recycle materials

There aren't many companies out there that don't use CD-Rs or DV-Rs, which primarily get stored for years as backup data files, and then most likely dropped in the trash. For everyday folks, music CDs usually get stored for a while and when it comes time to sell them back now that you're sick of Blues Traveler, the record shop isn't buying because they are old and scratched up from your removable Blaupunkt car stereo. So what do you do?
